The Bit Where We Remembered Mr Wimpy…

Last night, talking to K…

- K pokes Claire repeatedly to the tune of “Wimpy, wimpy, wimpy” due to my amazing level of weak-and-feebleness -

Every time you say that I think of Mr Wimpy.“
“Mr Wimpy?“
“Yeah, do you remember Mr Wimpy?“
– K thinks -
“I remember the little Mr” she says refering to the sign, still a bit puzzled.
“Yeah, it was Mr Wimpy before it became Wimpy, with the little man.“
– K thinks -
“Oh yeah, I remember him… He was on all the menus!” she said, now grinning and continued… “He was a little — “
–in unison–
“Beefeater Burger!”

For those of you unaware, Mr Wimpy, or rather now Wimpy is a UK fast food chain. It was much more popular with the fast-food eating public in decades gone by and is now seen as only a marginal step-up from a road-side “Greasy Spoon”-trying-to-go-up-market, having now been surpassed by US fast-food conglomerates.

Mr Wimpy was our version of Ronald McDonald, if you will. He was a beefburger shaped character with arms, legs and a large nose and wore a Beefeater Uniform.

Unfortunately, when I asked Google if it remembered Mr Wimpy, it seems the only surviving evidence of his legacy is the Mr Wimpy computer game for the 1980s C64.
