This week’s PhotoFriday Challenge: MASCULINE
My sister’s boyfriend’s pride and joy…
(The car has also featured in FastCar Magazine and the FastCar 2005 Calendar (December)).
PSST! A quick aside to let you know that Tutorialtastic is relaunching today

A full-time wheelchair user since 1998, Claire lives in an adapted bungalow in England with her Partner of 10 years and their two dogs:

Mmm but to me the image is so feminine. Women and be powerful and beautiful. So easily hurt. Often out of reach, but worth every penny, just like that special car.
Educate a non-car-y person.. what make/model is it?
And thanks for the plug
Hoping to get the new site up in the next couple of hours, whee!
To Danny: Mmm…perhaps, I agree to a certain extent, especially as I see/refer to machinery such as cars, boats etc as “she”/“her” etc…
However for me, the masculinity comes from the male-dominant “Boy Racer”-type sub-culture that the car was born out of. It appears to be all very testosterone fuelled in it’s competiveness to out-do rivals… Which leads me to Jem with my next point…
To Jem: The car is a souped-up, heavily modded and very unique Toyota Yaris (hence the title: Yaris’ old tag line in TV commercials)… That’s why its appeared in mags and shows etc on the Car Mod circuit over the last year.
I was going to say “Corsa Mk2”..the headlights look about right for a set of Corsa B quad projectors…but, yes..thinking about it. Interesting..
theres a couple of Yaris’ in the carpark here..To be fair, I like the projection digital dashboard pod as it’s like my old Maestro..but the rest of the car(general Yaris’, not this one necessarily), while not bad..just looks “shot off” at the back IMO..I feel the same about the SMART cards. They seem to breed in the carpark.
Give me a nice old Rover SD1, MG Maestro, or Astra Mk1/3, and that’d do me. Old metal..much more fun. Something like this, with the V6 from the 800 series Rover..

Alas, at 36 my testosterone fuelled days are over. (or am i just suffering from speed camera dread?)
I agree, as a car it symbolises some of the worst of the male spirit, but your picture is a piece of art which captures another truth. I cant put it into words because they are not masculine enough but im sure you understand.
To Karl: I agree with what you’re saying about the arse-end of Yaris’, however the kit on this one gives her a bit of a more shapely rear, which helps her case
I can’t get a scan of the rear as a lot of the pics are on a double-page spread which makes it a bugger to scan, but here some more angles, just to give you an idea of the difference between her and the regular Yaris…
Scan 1, Scan 2 and On my driveway…
To Danny: Yup, definitely speed camera dread…
Maybe it’s because a woman took the photo…take a look at the scans — a bloke was the photographer on that shoot…Is there a feminine/masculine difference? (Obviously, the guy is a pro so his pics sh*t on mine, but hey… :D)
danny: Ditto…speed cameras. I’m 28..;) I’d still like one of my choices though..it’s not the speed…the noise however..music for the soul..big old Rover V8, or 2000cc O series/1600 S/R series..all have a soundtrack I’ve yet to hear matched..:)
New cars are just too quiet for me..
