After One Word Blog Day, I was curious as to why people chose the words they did.
My word for that day was Prince.
prince
n.
- A male member of a royal family other than the monarch, especially a son of the monarch.
- A nobleman of varying status or rank.
- An outstanding man, especially in a particular group or class: a merchant prince.
Abbreviation of Prince Rogers Nelson: Minneapolis-born Singer, Songwriter, Producer, Multi-instrumentalist and Musical Genius.
Indeed, I have previously briefly discussed my adoration for the diminutive, cuban heel-sporting fit of eccentricity that is Prince/
.
And yes, I could bang on for the length of a gospel about the man’s talent, musical ability, vocal range, custom-made guitars and lack of vertical stature. However, I’d be saying nothing that hadn’t already (and more eloquently) been said time and time before…
“Everybody wants to tell what’s already been told…”
Gold
Not to mention that in my opinion, all that is a given, in any case. And simply retelling worn-out facts wouldn’t really be defining the reason behind my choice. The word was chosen simply because no other word would have suitably described my mental and emotional state over this past week.
I have been infatuated with Prince for as long as I can think back. Remember that first crush you had when you were really young? No, I don’t mean when you and your mate fancied some any-Benny when you were 12 — I mean the first ever time you had that really innocent awareness of another person. Kind of like a crush, only you were so little you didn’t even know what the feeling was at the time, all you knew is that when you saw/thought of said person, your insides went squish and you felt all warm and fuzzy?
Prince was/is my squish.

Ahh. I too have been wandering around the OWBD participant sites to see why people chose the words they did.
The meaning behind your chosen word surprised me. Prince popped into my head when I first saw your word, but I didn’t think that was the reason. What a pleasant surprise.
I never had a crush on him myself, but I do like his music.
This post reminds me so much of this guilty little secret I’ve been so unsuccessfully hiding for many years: My one and only love, the only man that’s really made me…er…squish (Haha..sex joke, I think), the guy that influenced all the men I’ve come to find attractive is…
Seifer Almasy.
Oh! I know, I know…it’s so pathetic, but it’s true. My one love is a video game character. I started loving him when I first played FFVIII back in 98 or somewhere around there. Ever since then, I’ve had things for the troubled guys, the guys that are angry with the world, and guys that are blonde. Oh, the blonde guys are the kicker.
And I could probably ramble on about him for days and days…I’m sure you know a little bit about that, yeah?
Anyways, this isn’t about my little blonde-haired, green-eyed secret love…this is about PRINCE! Because he rocks that much. Oh, and it’s about Claire too! Because she rocks that much.
It’s really great to have this sort of detailed explanation of your word because after that little comment conversation back there, I think I’ve become a Clairephile. LOL! You’re a very interesting person…the Prince fetish (LOL) just sort of seals the deal for me.
Gah! Ramble, ramble, Elyse.
I think I’m going to haunt your site, if you don’t mind.
It was totally a stalker statement! In fact, I’m hiding in your closet right now…you really should clean in here..I think I sat in something sticky.
Okay, as funny as that last bit up there was, it was gross. Ew. LOL!
And, yeah, I’ve never even heard of Placebo. At first, I was like…she wants to know what I think about inactive medication? And then I clicked the link and was like…Oooooooh! It’s a band! So, yeah, I think that says it all. But I take it you’d like me to check them out, yeah?
Jenn: You were suprised? Why was that? (BTW, good to hear you’re a fan of his music
)
Elyse: LOL, your confession reminds me so much of someone I knew at school that was FF obsessed — I swear she secretly loved one of the characters too… I remember her telling me she cried when they died in the game, so you’re not alone, by a long shot!
As stalkerish as that sounds, I think that’s a fabulous compliment, so I shall take it as one and grin insanely as I type.
You are welcome to haunt as much as you like, I don’t mind… Just one small thing… What’s your view on Placebo?
LOL, really? Never heard of them? :-o
Yeah if you want…You son’t mention you taste in music in you “Writer” section on your site, so I can’t judge if you’d like them or not but you could try their site, get a taster for their new album here and/or read my gig post.
I am such a fucking Fan-Girl *sigh*
I can’t mention my taste in music because I like pretty much everything. Except country. It bothers me.
Anyways, so yeah, I listened to some of those samples..and they, for some reason, make me think of some new-age, hip Tears for Fears, which is a good thing since I friggin love Tears for Fears. I’m probably going to get one of their albums…that is, if I can get some money. I’ll tell people it’s for a good cause. LOL!
Okay, so is there something or someone you AREN’T a fan of? LMAO!
May I take this opportunity to recommend Once More With Feeling (their Singles Collection/Greatest Hits-type affair), and my three favourite albums: Sleeping With Ghosts, MEDS and Without You I’m Nothing…
… The only music that I cannot really tolerate is that bikini-clad-wiggling-ho-and-pimp-gangsta-rap-shit… I find it all a bit cack and repetitive…oh and Simply Red and Phil Collins… Those two are the stuff of nightmares…
LOL…erm… there are I s’pose, I’m just a very fanatic person: fandom suits my personality
