The Bit Where Common-Sense Got Up & Left…

Observations I have made whilst using the D70s:

  • It is bloody heavy.
  • Operation of the camera improves drastically when the lens-cap is removed.
  • The same too, can be said when the memory card is actually in the camera.
  • Christ, it’s heavy.
  • Funnily enough, macro filters with a 62mm thread will not fit a lens with a 67mm thread.
  • It helps that when trying to focus manually, you actually turn off “Auto-Focus”.
  • Jey-sus wept, it ain’t ‘arf got a weight to it.

And no, I didn’t just make this up. I did actually make all those pitiful mistakes. To think I got an “A” in my Photography AS Level. I’m a bloody disgrace. To add insult to injury, I’ve just realised I began a paragraph with “And”.

I’ll get my coat now, shall I?

  • I’m getting the feeling your camera is heavy.. ;)
You’re probably doing better with your camera than I am, I am so used to my cheapy point & click that 99% of the piccies I’ve done with my new one are blurred, out of focus or over-exposed. :(

  • 2 and 6 I can relate to.:eh:

The work cam (Fuji bigass something like Jems but not) also works considerably better (so does any camera) when it’s on a tripod, and not held in my unfortunately shaky grip.

All my pics are stuffed anyway..I like the optical viewfinder for clarity control, but have to remove the glasses to do it. One eye long/one eye shortsighted means difficulty..heh.

Really? I wonder what gave you that impression… ;)

    Ditto… Pain in the arse

 Wow, really? Me too!! I never knew of anyone else with the same problem, is it CP related then? Or, is it just a coincidence? :???:

  • The ‘leaving the lens cap’ on thing is actually pretty common, even among good photographers I know, so don’t feel too bad. ;)

  • I’m planning on buying the D80, soon.. I should actually test out the others in D-series, eh? :P Especially the weight! I think my current is 145g.. I can remember a TV program when they were filming wildlife, and the photographer left the lens cap on whilst “snapping” lots of pictures of giraffes. Was quite amusing.

  • I adore my D40 in a way I cannot describe. I found the D80 far too bulky. Even the D40 is heavy, so I can imagine the D70 is very heavy for one so svelte.

I’m yet to bother with manual focus as the auto-focus settings (I’ve set it up to allow me to manually select the auto-focus area for each shot) are so darn good.

This is such a boon for me as I’ve spent years with only manual focus SLR cameras. So I learnt my craft the hard way, now I can kick back and enjoy photography safe in the knowledge I can flick to manual when the shot calls for it.

  • Mmmm, D70 tastyness… :P
On the plus side, at least you won’t have to worry about the whole get-healthier-new-year-resolution with your camera/dumb-bells…

  • Don’t feel bad — I’m pretty sure someone ELSE would have to tell me what I was doing wrong before I went crazy

  • You can start a paragraph with “and” if it is for dramatic effect –nods– i got Advanced Higher English see :P!

It isn’t the remembering all of that which makes you a good photographer, but the moments you capture on film. My that sounded almost like wisdom :S ;) … or a camera advertisement!

    Love Bean xoxox
