Blogging has been difficult of late. It seems I only have a limited reservoir of writing energy and my new course has now imposed a hose pipe ban on my blog.
I’m in the process of finishing my first assignment and already I’m getting nervous. I’m trying my best to be brave when concerning letting other read my work, but to be honest, it only ever seems to back-fire.
K’s idea of constructive criticism goes to the tune of:
Claire: (hopeful) So, what did you think?
K: I don’t like it
Claire: Okaaay (a little deflated), why?
K: I don’t know
Claire: Well, what in particular don’t you like about it?
K: I don’t know, I just don’t like it
[Repeat the above 2 lines x3]
Claire: (frustrated) Yes, but unless you tell me what don’t you like about it, I can’t fix it!“
K: *shrugs*
Claire: Aarrgghh!!
Therefore, I can safely deduce that my writing is totally cack, but I’m still at a loss as to why…
A full-time wheelchair user since 1998, Claire lives in an adapted bungalow in England with her Partner of 10 years and their two dogs:

Have said it before and will say it again … am always here should you need me.

Remember, not everyone likes the same thing.
I am a Terry Pratchett nut, but I know a lot of people that regard it as “utter drivel”. That’s life, plain and simple.
Just because it may just not “hit the spot” for the particular reader, does not mean it’s necessarily bad.
Haha. That’s terrible! My mum’s the same!
Karl’s right — different tastes and all that. Of course, you could give us a preview and we could give you feedback? *hint hint*
You see this is why there’s such diversity when it comes to reading matter, and we all have our ‘comfort zones’ in what we enjoy reading and the type of books we enjoy.
And I can only sympathize when it comes to handing in assignments when you think there’s loads that can be completely re-written, improved and extra bits added in to get the all important extra marks. Particularly as my first assignment was whisked away from me this Wednesday to be marked, when I was just hoping it would be handed back with notes of things to do to it — no such luck
Is there anyone else who can have a read of it before you send the thing off

Karl:
That’s what I kept telling myself when I submitted it
Keep your fingers crossed for me!
Jem:
You see, I’ve thought about this… I think and think about it, then I just cringe and decide “Maybe later, when I feel better/braver”
Imo:
You see, this is the problem: K’s not a “reader” at all and I think if she were, this process would be a lot easier…
I’m doing a Teaching Assistants Course, and the first assignment is made up of four parts, and it’s the first part that’s just been taken away from me
We’re just all hoping we’re allowed to make changes before the whole thing’s sent off to be externally marked. Meanwhile part two has to be in by Wednesday week which is great when you’ve had no feedback yet on the first bit
Anyway for relaxation this weekend I’m reading up on child psychology, which is fun
Imo:
Ooh, really? Wow, well best of luck with it!
Reminds me of how my web design courses used to work — we had to sign up/pay for the next module before we’d even got the pass/fail mark from our current one
And we never got specific feedback on our weak/strong points — just a percentage/pass/fail mark.
Ah, just a spot of light reading then…
Well, you’re a good blog writer! Fiction writing is considerably harder, though, and unfortunately I have no advice for you because I’m far from an expert on the subject. Wish I could be more helpful.
I still owe you a much too long overdue e-mail…
I’m sort-of-maybe back, btw… Let’s see if I can keep this blogging thing up for a while again.
Alyssa:
Welcome back! It’s good to hear from you, how have you been?
I’ve been good. Busy and crazy from trying to deal with the busy-ness, but good.
