Why is it just when you think things are going swimmingly, suddenly the skies tug on one of life’s loose threads and it all starts to unravel?

Just when we thought it was safe for K to book some time off and for us to organise little trips out and treats in lieu of a “proper” holiday, about a million unexpected expenses rear their ugly head and leave us with a fortnight “break” with just about enough funds to go nowhere and do nothing. It’s so frustrating. We hardly ever go out or make a special effort to take time out and treat ourselves to a day or meal out anywhere and now that we have, Vixx’s Fate God has gone and put the mockers on it.

Our lives have settled into a rather tranquil routine — I’ve even started doing my physio programme again for the first time in at least 18 months; a fact that I’m writing here in the hopes that by recording it for all to see, I may even stick to the programme this time.

The weeks seem to be running away from me of late, I can’t believe that my fiction writing course ends this week, I am so nervous. My story is in its very early stages and although I’m confident I will be “finished” enough in order to submit, I really don’t know how good it will be. What if it’s crap? What if I’ve juggled this course for the last 12 weeks and yet I’m still not sufficiently prepared for when I begin my full-scale Creative Writing course [A215]?

To help me prepare, I’ve ordered this book to read in order to build on and reinforce what I’ve already learnt during A171, but I have no idea how I’m going to tackle the poetry aspect that will be coming up. The only time I’ve ever written poetry is during school for a compulsory piece of GCSE coursework and I can’t say that I thought much to it, and that’s putting it mildly!

I’ve still not listened to the album in its entirety yet (my usual practise with Prince albums). I like to listen to new music in chunks, pick out my instant favourites first then, once they’re familiar, progress onto the “growers”. Instant faves include “Guitar”, “Future Baby Mama”, “Mr Goodnight” and “Chelsea Rodgers”: a track that I just cannot wait to hear live. I intend to try out the other 6 tracks in an order dictated by recommendations from The Org.

I owe a lot to The Org in terms of my collection and the order in which it has evolved, earmarking recommended or deeply discussed songs for future reference. I don’t tend to let opinions regarding taste sway me (for example, there are many songs that I covertly adore whilst the general consensus is one of strong distaste). However, lengthy discussions (good or bad), or the description of a particular guitar or drum solo is often enough to intrigue me into going out and buying based on curiosity alone, without even having heard 5 seconds of the track.

Do any of you have any “rituals” when listening to new music?
How are you all, have I missed much in my absence?
